Post-it notes, also known as sticky notes, have some similarities with stickers. In fact, they are not the same thing. The main differences between them lie in:
1. Different Materials:

  • The materials of stickers are quite diverse, including PVC stickers, PET stickers, matte stickers, etc. The material of post-it notes is relatively simple.
  • Most post-it notes are made of ordinary wood pulp paper.

2. Different Forms:

  • Stickers come in a variety of shapes and colors, and most of them are in bulk. You can choose to buy one or more stickers.
  • Although post-it notes also come in a variety of colors, their shapes are relatively simple, mostly square. Moreover, the sticky notes are all sold in the form of multiple pieces combined together.

3. Different Stickiness:

  • The entire back of the sticker is sticky and can be well adhered to objects or walls. If you try to remove a sticker that has already been pasted, it is very likely to cause damage to the sticker.
  • The sticky area of the post-it note is only on one side of the back of the paper (usually the upper one-third of the back). Post-it notes are not as sticky as stickers, but most post-it notes can be torn off and reused.

4. Different Uses:

  • Stickers are mainly used for decoration and marking, emphasizing visual effects and durability.
  • Post-it notes are mainly used for temporary record with fast message, easy to view and modify at any time.

You need a printing template to help you determine the position of the post-it note and when printing. You can use software such as Google Slides or Microsoft Word to create the template.
The following is the specific operation process (taking Google Slides as an example):

  • Choose “Border color” button > select “Transparent”. You can obtain a design template without borders.
  • Click “File” > “Download” > and choose “PDF Document”. Just like the positioning template, you also need to save your design template as a PDF file.
  • Stick your post-it notes onto your positioning template. You can stick post-it notes on all the rectangles or just some of them, depending on your needs.
  • To make sure the post-it notes doesn’t move during the printing process, you need to press the post-it notes with a heavy object(such as a book, etc.) for five minutes.
  • You can also apply solid glue to the sticky parts of the post-it notes before sticking them onto the positioning template. However, liquid glue is not very suitable because it is fluid and may contaminate the surface of the sticky notes. And most liquid glue is stickier than solid glue, which can make it difficult to remove the post-it notes completely from the positioning template.
  • Test prints on your printer to determine which side of the paper the design will be printed on.
  • Put the positioning template with post-it notes into the manual feed tray of your printer.
  • Adjust the print Settings. Select “Properties” or “Preferences” and choose the highest quality print setting available. Set the paper type to “Cardstock” or “Labels”.
  • Click the “Print” button and keep a close eye on the paper feeding process of the printer. If there are any signs of paper jam, stop the process immediately to prevent the post-it notes from wrinkling or getting damaged.
  • After printing is complete, wait for the surface of the post-it notes to dry completely (about 1-2 minutes) to avoid smudging. Then, gently remove them from the positioning template.

1. Before creating the positioning template, you need to check the purchase records or measure the size of the post-it notes with a ruler to avoid printing imperfections due to the deviation of the template size.
2. When attempting to print on sticky notes for the first time, it is recommended to only use 1-2 post-it notes for a test. Once successful, you can then stick them in bulk to reduce waste of paper and post-it notes.
3. After you have created the positioning template and design template, you can also save them in editable formats (such as the original Google Slides file, Word document) separately. In the future, if you want to modify the text or graphics, you don’t need to recreate the templates, which can save you a lot of time and effort.

1. How to determine the feeding direction of the paper

You can conduct a printing test. All you need to do is draw a symbol on a blank sheet of paper, then place the paper into the manual feed tray. Observe on which side the printed design appears. If the design is printed on the side with the symbol, then the paper feeding direction is correct. If the design and the symbol are not on the same side, then you need to change the paper feeding direction.

2. What should I do if the design on the sticky notes is blurry or faded

  • Make sure the paper type is set as “Cardstock” or “Labels”.
  • If your printer is an inkjet printer, you need to replace with quick-drying ink, or wait for a longer period (3-5 minutes) after printing before touching it.
  • Avoid using too thin or highly absorbent post-it notes.

3. How to deal with frequent paper jams in the printer

You need to immediately stop the printing process and turn off the printer power. Wait for 1-2 minutes, then gently pull out the jammed paper from the paper inlet or outlet (avoid pulling it forcefully as it may cause the post-it notes to tear). Subsequently, you need to check if the post-it notes have exceeded the positioning template edge, and whether the paper type is set to“Cardstock” or “Labels”, etc.

Conclusion

Printing on post-it notes allows you to batch notes more quickly. You can also show more artistic and customized content on post-it notes. By following these steps and tips mentioned above, I believe you can easily finish the task of printing on post-it notes.
